Off-Road Brawn: 2019 Wrangler Performance Power

Big adventures require big muscle. The 2019 Jeep Wrangler hopes to bring it in spades with its two engine options.

The standard engine in this heavy-duty off-roader is a 3.6L Pentastar® V6. With so many cylinders working under the hood, it can easily produce 285 HP and 260 lb-ft of torque. While that’s quite a bit of power in its own right, the turbo upgrade manages to amp up the torque even more.

When you equip the available 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder, an eTorque Mild Hybrid System works to give torque a nice boost. You’ll be able to churn up 295 lb-ft as well as 270 HP.

One engine delivers high HP, the other big torque. Pick your preference! You can rest assured that in either case, as long as the new Wrangler is properly equipped, it can tow 3,500 pounds worth of rowboats, pop-up campers, or ATVs.

Rocky Roads Will be No Match

Available Tru-Lok® electronic locking differentials help distribute power between the front and rear of the vehicle. If you’re making sharp turns or trying to scale a rocky path, your wheels can stay planted.

If you end up kicking up some rocks on those paths, too, you can be confident the underbody of your Wrangler is protected. Heavy-gauge steel skid plates and a skid bar act as a suit of armor for your car.
