2020 Jeep Gladiator Powertrain Review

The 2020 Gladiator is an off-road pickup with plenty of power. It comes with a 3.5L Pentastar® V6 engine that generates 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission that gives you complete control or a 9-speed automatic transmission that maximizes performance and efficiency.

Together, these features allow the Gladiator to tow a maximum of 7,650 pounds when properly equipped.

You can truly make the most of every drive with the available Command-Trac® 4-wheel drive (4X4) system. This part-time shift-on-the-fly system divides torque 50/50 between the front and rear axels to help you take on any challenge, whether that’s a snowy commute or an impromptu trail ride.

Off-Road Ready Performance Features

Just like you, the 2020 Gladiator is always ready for an adventure. In addition to its Trail Rated® 4x4 system, it also has plenty of features that can help you make the most out of every off-road endeavor.

For example, available Selec-Speed Control helps you take on tough terrain by automatically moving you forward at speeds of 0.6 MPH to five MPH while in 4-LO. This means you can focus your attention on navigating without having to control the throttle or the brake.  

It also has an available forward-facing TrailCam Off-Road Camera. This displays gridlines in the infotainment screen to help you choose the best path to get around any obstacle that’s in your way. An integrated washer allows you to keep it clean of mud splatter or dirt so that you always have a clear view of the road ahead.

Cargo Bed and Exterior Style

Strong and able, the Jeep Gladiator interior has an impressive payload capacity of 1,600 pounds with its 60.3-inch bed. This can accommodate a total of 35.5 cubic feet of cargo. With the 3-position tailgate, you can adjust the tailgate as needed to load and unload all your gear with ease.

As you ride, you can feel the wind in your hair by folding down the windshield, removing the doors, and taking the top off. You can do this in two different ways:

• Sunrider® Soft Top
• Freedom Top® 3-piece modular hardtop

The Sunrider® Soft Top lets you flip back the roof cover or remove it completely and let the sky be your ceiling. A removable rear window helps you get even closer to the action.  The Freedom Top® 3-piece modular hardtop, on the other hand, gives you the choice to remove just the two front panels or take off all three sections to get exactly the kind of breeze you want.
